If you want to say something, just say it

If you want to say something, just say it

If you want to say something, just say it. Sounds repetitive and simple, yet how many time I wished I had this sentence sculpted into my brain so that I wouldn’t forget.

I would have loved to have it sculpt in my brain that day when I said “Excuse me” to the passing-by man working in the hotel I was residing. My words went unnoticed, unheard, less audible than a fly buzz.

It wasn’t the first time, nor it will be the last

One of the last times I felt my voice and my goals did not align with each other, was during a networking event. As I sat on my chair listening to the experience of navigated female entrepreneurs I couldn’t help but thinking: “I should tell them about my live coaching sessions, they would be so helpful for them.”

It took what seemed like a very long time to verbalise that thought through an actual direct statement. And when I did, I did not focus on the actual goal: tell them about the live coaching sessions. Instead, I packed that information in a broader, uninteresting question and instantly felt like I failed.

On my way back home I took this chance to share my experience on a Facebook live video.

Not because I needed to feel sorry for myself (one of my philosophy is “It’s OK to be a bit less from time to time, don’t beat yourself up for it”).

We make the same mistake when communicating our services and businesses

The reason why I shared the video is because I wanted to:

  • Make sure I reminded myself of being effective when communicating
  • Make sure you are effective when communicating

What I mean by this is, make sure you use all your assets and your full volume even in your marketing material. I suppose sometimes we are stopped by the fear of being visible, appearing silly, seeming salesy etc.. but the truth is that we have amazing services to offer and we ought it to our customers to share them at full voice.

In fact, I recently watched a video by Ramit Sethi, creator of Zero to Launch, and I loved the way he highlighted that if we know we have something that might benefit others we OUGHT it to them to share it.

So here is something you can do to make sure you deliver:

  1. Rehearse what you want to say
  2. Before speaking or writing always ask yourself, how can I help?
  3. Allow yourself to be a bit less from time to time

Have you found yourself in a similar situation? How did you overcome it? Leave your wisdom in the comments, what you say might help so many others.
